Application

What do you believe about prophets and prophecy? Write your theology concerning this in your journal. Once you are finished, compare what you believe to what the Bible says. Be committed to submit your opinion to the Lord and allow Him to adjust your theology where your theology is in need of correction.

Prophetic Reformers

To reform means to make changes in something (typically a social, political, or economic institution or practice) in order to improve it. A few other words that describe reform are renovate, reorient, rectify or correct, reshape, remake, rebuild and change. The sixteenth century was a notable period of reformation. Martin Luther, a German monk, wrote ninety-five theoretical questions protesting the practices of clergy abuse, greed, corruption and faulty doctrine within the Catholic Church. Martin Luther’s protests of the Catholic Church’s practices and inconsistencies in doctrine led to a split of the Church and the formation of the Protestant Church.

Similarly, each generation must carry the spirit of reformation. This means that every generation is assigned to release the power and authority of the Kingdom of God to overturn the darkness. You and I must carry the spirit of reformation in our generation. The essential characteristic of reformation is truth. As truth is revealed to you, truth can be revealed through you.

Reformers receive their message from God, who is Truth. As Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” The Kingdom message is a divine message of truth from God to humanity. When that message of truth penetrates the hearts of men and women, it opens their eyes to God’s love for them. It is at this moment that they can turn from darkness. Satan uses lies and deception to hold people in darkness, but believers who carry the spirit of reformation have the supernatural capacity to deliver the captives the enemy is holding.

I want to emphasize again that reformers are not limited to those who are called as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. All believers who understand their identity as the Ekklesia carry the spirit of reformation and are committed to speaking the truth of God as they challenge and push back the darkness. Take a moment now and decree aloud, I am a reformer!

Remember, everything in the earthly realm is voice activated. Prophets are reformers, and God uses prophets to vocalize His will and intent. Like apostles, prophets carry a message of repentance that urges men and women to return to God. God uses prophets to vocalize revelation and convey His instructions. This is a picture of illumination. In chapter 3, we discussed the fact that prophets delivered messages from God at the gate of the city. Words of prophecy are powerful. They are like a hammer smashing demonic mindsets and dark agendas. Whenever prophets and prophetic people prophesy, the earth responds. God uses prophecy because He loves the nations. Cities and regions can be delivered from darkness through prophecy.
